We live in an era that we can work and study wherever and whenever you want thanks to the internet or digital devices.
You feel more grateful for the technology if you live abroad.
There are many expat wives who want to study something new or acquire new skills when abroad to prepare for a future career and smooth re-entering into the job market back home.
I recommend Udemy to all these ambitious people!
What is Udemy?
Udemy describes itself as “The leading global marketplace for learning and instruction” and says that “By connecting students all over the world to the best instructors, Udemy is helping individuals reach their goals and pursue their dreams“.
This is an online platform for all the people who want to study something new and get new skills.
You can study (almost) whatever you want from Marketing, Design to Language or Business and the number of courses on the platform counts more than 100,000!
Udemy was born in San Fransico, US and most of the courses are provided in English and other languages.
If you are learning English, It’s always a good idea to “learn something in English” rather than just “learn English”, and this is the platform for you.
How to start Udemy: 3 easy steps
- Create an account (free)
- Select your course(price varies)
- Start study!
You just can study wherever and whenever you want if you are connected to the Internet.
Good for people if…
-
You want to study at your own pace
→Once you select your course, you can start, stop and finish studying whenever you want.
-
You want to acquire some specific skill
→Lecturers are experts in their fields and you can get a certificate once you finish a course.
-
You don’t want to spend much
→Udemy does discount sales, a lot. (currently on Feb 20th they are doing “Presidents Day Sale”) Yes, they tend to do a promotion around public holidays. Discount rate can be incredibly high so you just want to check these out.
-
You just want to give it a try first
→There are times when you want to try before you commit. If you go to actual schools, it can be difficult to withdraw. Udemy is a more flexible platform and you can just stop or quit if the course doesn’t interest you as much as expected.
-
You want to teach, not just learn
→Udemy is a platform for both learners and teachers. Experts can be lecturers if admitted.
What I found out about Udemy
I learned about Udemy when I was living in Canada for a few years before moving to the US.
My friend taught me about the service as she knew I wanted to study programming and web-design.
I am currently taking my 4th course and found all the courses easy to understand with a good mix of input and output.
You can watch a preview of a course before actually taking it to familiarize yourself with a lecturer and how the course is taught.
The only problem I’ve found out is that you can sometimes be too lazy to take time for a study without self-discipline…
It’s a battle against myself….does Udemy have a course on that?
Go JVs!
